Tina - Bike Helmet Case
Tina is a helmet case that you can lock to your bike.
The idea is born from a recurring issue I was facing. I always forget to use my bike helmet. And when I remember to take it from home, I just forget it later at a café or at work.
Sofia, a dear friend, also had the same problem. One day that she was cycling in Leipzig, her wheel got stuck in a tram track and she fell on her head. She didn’t have a helmet this day. She was taken to the hospital and it took her several months to recover from this fall. It’s crazy how common those bike accidents are. I wanted to do something about it.
I wanted a way to lock my helmet directly to my bike, leave it in the street and make sure it was protected from the rain. After a couple prototypes, I ended up building a 3d-printed case that can contain a foldable helmet. Secured with a key, this case is also rainproof and solidly attached to the frame of the bike so it cannot be stolen. I printed it using recycled plastic bottle filament to keep sustainability at the center of my practice.
The process was definitely super fun and I got to discover the magic of 3d-printing (sometimes slow and tedious magic, but still magic).
